Empire Earth: The Art of Conquest: Prima's Official Strategy Guide

Average review score:

Rushed to print
I am an enormous Empire Earth: The Art of Conquest fan. This book is very good in its treatment of the civilizations and individual units but very weak in the campaign walkthroughs. Don't expect the walkthroughs to give you all that much of an advantage during gameplay. Also, I have counted at least 5 typos and I've only owned it a few weeks. They must have really rushed to get this to market.

The unit descriptions are outstanding. Worth the price just for that.

First German/Speaking German for the Real Beginner: Speaking German for the Real Beginner (First Languages Series)
Published in Paperback by E D C Publications (March, 1995)
Authors: Kathy Gemmell and Jenny Tyler
Average review score:

This book was good for our kids who needed to learn German
This book is great for kids who need to begin to learn German. The pictures are colorful and interesting, the situations are practical, and the vocabulary is full of useful, everyday words. There is so little available in this subject area for this age, it was good for us to find something this useful that was not too intimidating for our kids. Also would be good for adult beginners who need a simple guide to beginning German.

Chandler Hospital is where it all begins, the estate of Jacob McQuade is at stake as his new wife attempts to steal everything from the granddaughters including their inheritance. Mrs. McQuade sells off the Rocking M and when the old man dies, there is a debacle about the Rocking M Ranch. There are medical questions to ask oneself while reading this book, it moves very well and there are mystries invloved.

The author does a great job in her writing skills and the story flows. If your a soap opera fan, this is a must read for you. If your into mystries there are things in this book for you to read. Good book.

Hard to complete and yet thoroughly rewarding if you do.
This is a book containing a huge program for all people out there who enjoy the old days of C64's and Spectrums. Once fully typed out you are left with a typical text adventure which is challenging, yet strangely rewarding if you can complete it.

Standard Handbook of Consulting Engineering Practice
Published in Hardcover by McGraw-Hill Professional (01 June, 1996)
Authors: Tyler Gregory Hicks and Jerome F. Mueller
Average review score:

Needs more practical finanical information
This is an good guide for engineers who have never worked as a consultant. It covers many technical, professional and operational issues. However, it needs practical information on buiness issues like financial and accounting for both "lone guns" with just one person vs two or more people.

Questions like "Do I need to have a registered company name?" "If it is just me do I need to set up a bank account/accounting system or just have the client make out the checks to me ?". "What do I need to do if I set up for Individual vs a Coorporation or Partnership" "Do I need to set up a payroll system which takes out taxes and worker comp, or do I just deposit the checks in my personal account and handle taxes at end of the year ?"

Discussions of moonlighting vs full time and Indiviual vs Groups and practical step by step items in setting up finacial and accounting issues would be helpful.

The Usborne Book of Easy Piano Tunes (Easy Tunebooks)
Published in Hardcover by Usborne Publishing Ltd (January, 1992)
Authors: Philip Hawthorn and Jenny Tyler
Average review score:

the usborne book of easy piano tunes
I was attempting to teach my eight year old son beginning piano with this book. He said, 'I think it's too hard for beginners'. I concur, as alot of information is squeezed in to each page, and no guidance is given as to how long a person should practice each song. However, the illustrations are funny and informative. This book would probablly be helpful to someone with a little background in piano.

Microsoft Frontpage 98 (Laura Lemay's Web Workshop)
Published in Paperback by SAMS (November, 1997)
Authors: Denise Tyler and Laura Lemay
Average review score:

Book is what I expected
I'm an experienced web developer, studying for the new Microsoft certification on Frontpage. This book was great for me - I like that it's not just force feeding you the skills, it actually has tasks for you to do - a learn it by doing it approach. It also covers everything that FP98 can do quite nicely. This ISN'T an "introduction to HTML" book, NOR is it a guide on developing the perfect web site. What it is, is an intro to Frontpage, and it does that very well.

Only knock against it is that it must have been written using FrontPage 98 Beta, because there are some inconsistencies with the book and the retail FP98. But not enough to make the book any less useful.

Very Impressive Book for Beginners
I am a beginning web page designer so FrontPage 98 in itself is a great advantage for me. This book was a tremendous help and a great reference book to have in addition to Microsoft's generally poor documentation that comes with their software. The only reason for this book not getting a "10" from me is the fact the book could have been laid out a little differently and a little more streamlined. The first part of the book does not deal with hands-on web page design and instruction but premarily on the general features of the program. The second part does an admirable job of hands on web design with good explinations of software features integrated with the tutorials. In my opinion a very good book!

Good basic reference
This is a good references for how-to instructions on basic FP 98 functions. The quality of step-by-step instructions varies throughout, but this book is a good step up from the sparse documentation the comes with the software. Not a book for advanced users or developers, but this is a good first book for beginners.

EverQuest: The Ruins of Kunark--Revised & Expanded: Prima's Official Strategy Guide

It not THAT BAD but....
It not half as bad that a lot of people have posted here on the online reviews. That said, there are far too many mistakes in the book to recommend it to new players of the game. On the other hand, experienced players will not need anything that printed in the book as most of the information is nothing new to them (if its not in error already).

A lot of the tables and listings are clearly "cut and paste" paddings and will not help the players (either newby or experienced). The maps are an improvement over the manual but thats not saying much as the maps in the manual are abysmal to start with. To old hand players, its clear that the book was written by someone who had only cursory experience with the game and is unqualified to give any real "tips".

It's a great pity as there is a need for some sort of player guide to EQ the MMORPG game. If only some real effort had gone into this book like vetting the contents for accuracy in the first place. Its hoped that the second edition will be an improvement.

Basic Guide. Outdated Now
I found this book invaluable before being able to alt+tab out of EQ. Now it's a bit outdated and the information can easily be accessed online.

I still reference this book for basic skill lists and basic recipes for tradeskills. The merchant lists for the cities that do have maps are pretty handy.

must have book
my husband is obsessed with everquest and he says this book is a must have!!

Dark Age of Camelot: Prima's Official Strategy Guide
Published in Paperback by Prima Publishing (11 October, 2001)
Authors: Inc. Imgs, Melissa Tyler, and Prima Temp Authors
Average review score:

Outdated and Poor Quality Reference
This current release of the DAOC strategy guide is well below average. There are plenty of tables and statistics, but often the information is inaccurate and incomplete. The book lists all the items in the game (at the time of printing) but neglects to tell you where you can find any of them, and provides cryptic and often incorrect abbreviations regarding their attributes. Same thing with monsters - you can read about their approximate levels and damage types, for instance, but nowhere will you find out what area they're located in.

Maps in the book are completely useless. They only give you a vague overview of each area, with eight or nine general "points of interest" - no mob listing, no hunting ground suggestions, no recommended levels. Town maps are slightly better and do list most NPC locations.

The brief, one or two page class guides are also inaccurate and have misleading information. Investing time to develop a character is important, and following the book's suggested spec paths for most of the classes will result in a below average character. The class guides do list most of the skills available to each class and at what levels.

Important information such as horse routes and class trainer locations are hidden deep within each realm's chapter, and a chapter on craft skills is heavy on numbers (which you find in game anyway) but short on help with getting started. The books shows a listing of many quests available in the game, but gives you no help or information or even an idea of what the rewards are.

Darkness Falls addition is okay, but nothing really above and beyond anything you will find online. The expanded RvR section is useful to only RvR newbies. You also don't even get an index.

All of the information in this book can be found in better, more accurate detail for free on the game's more popular fansites. Don't be fooled by the size of the book either, as well more than half of it is filled with those data-intensive tables which have little practical use.

Only a DAOC newbie has any use for this guide, and even then it's recommended that they cross-check any of it's information with the fansites for accuracy.

I wish it were better
The only reason this gets 2 stars is because its a little better than the first version but not by much. Maps are terrible, char guides are bad, inconsistent and wrong, online information is easier to find and use. Mob info is sparse and usless, drop info is just a print out. Sorry I want this to be a good book but its not. If you are totally new to the game you may feel that this is a good companion to your gaming however if you have any char > lvl 40 its kinna useless.

Clear and useful
The DAoC atlas is a clear, informative guide to all the zones in the three realms of the original Camelot world (SI expansion not included). Unlike the Prima strategy guide for the game, or the SI guide, it is well-organised and easy to find things in. Each zone has a topo map and a map with major monsters listed on it, as well as information about loot drops and suggestions for hunting. You will want it on your desk!
